Bright, tangy, and surprisingly creamy, this Ninja Creami orange juice recipe transforms a simple glass of OJ into a frozen treat that tastes like summer in every bite. Perfect for hot days or when you want something lighter than traditional ice cream, it freezes beautifully and pairs well with tropical mix-ins.

Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh orange juice (no pulp preferred)
- 1/2 cup milk or coconut milk
- 1/4 cup heavy cream or Greek yogurt
- 2-3 tablespoons honey or sugar substitute
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- Zest of 1 orange, optional for extra brightness
Optional mix-ins:
- Crushed pineapple
- Shredded coconut
- White chocolate chips
- Candied orange peel
- Vanilla wafer pieces
- Mango chunks
- Citrus glaze drizzle
- Chopped pistachios
Instructions
Mix the base.
In a medium bowl or blender, combine the orange juice, milk, heavy cream (or yogurt), honey, vanilla extract, salt, and orange zest if using. Whisk or blend until completely smooth and the sweetener is fully dissolved. Taste to ensure the sweetness level is right before freezing.
Taste and adjust.
Sample the mixture — it should taste quite sweet and strongly citrusy since freezing mutes flavors. Add more honey or orange juice concentrate if needed for brightness. The tangier the better for this recipe.
Pour into the pint.
Transfer the mixture into the Ninja Creami pint container. Keep it well below the MAX FILL line (orange juice tends to expand more than milk bases). Leave plenty of room for mix-ins if desired.
Freeze completely.
Place the lid on securely and freeze upright for at least 24 hours. Citrus bases benefit from extra freezing time to set firmly without ice crystals.
Spin in the Ninja Creami.
Remove from freezer and process using the Sorbet or Lite Ice Cream setting first (citrus works better with these). If too icy, switch to Ice Cream setting on the second spin.
Check the texture.
The first spin may look crumbly or slightly icy — completely normal for fruit-based recipes. Test the center with a spoon before adding liquid.
Re-spin if needed.
Add 1-2 tablespoons milk or orange juice and run Re-spin. For sorbet-style texture, use less liquid. Repeat if necessary until creamy but still refreshing.
Add mix-ins.
Create a well in the center, add tropical mix-ins like coconut or pineapple, and run the Mix-ins cycle for even distribution without over-churning the delicate citrus flavor.
Serve.
Serve immediately for soft-serve texture, or freeze 20-30 minutes for scoopable consistency. Garnish with fresh orange zest or a citrus wedge.
Recipe Tips
- Fresh-squeezed orange juice gives the best flavor and brightest color.
- Pulp-free juice creates smoother texture; strain if needed.
- Coconut milk makes it dairy-free and adds tropical notes.
- Greek yogurt adds protein and tang that balances the sweetness.
- Freeze extra firm (48 hours) for best citrus texture results.
- Pairs beautifully with coconut whipped cream on top.
