Green Smoothie with Ginger, Spinach and Flaxseed

Makes 2 servings

Ingredients:

  • About 1 ⅔ cups water and/or non-dairy milk of your choice
  • 1 small banana
  • 1 small mango
  • 2 cups baby spinach
  • 1 tsp grated fresh ginger
  • 1 Tbsp ground flaxseed
  • 8 ice cubes

How to Prepare:

Peel, rinse, pit, and cut the ingredients as needed, and put them in a high-powered blender in the order listed above.

Secure the lid and process in short bursts until the ice cubes have been thoroughly crushed.

Then, slowly increase the speed, and blend at full speed for about 1 minute, or until the smoothie is very smooth and homogenous in color.

Add water if needed to adjust the consistency.

Blueberry, Spinach and Chia Smoothie

Makes 2 servings

Ingredients:

  • About 1 ⅔ cups water
  • 1 large ripe banana, peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup organic baby spinach, rinsed
  • 1 cup frozen blueberries, rinsed
  • 1 Tbsp chia seeds

How to Prepare:

Add 1 ⅔ cups water to a large-capacity blender, followed by the remaining ingredients.

Blend until thoroughly combined, turning off the blender and pushing down on the ingredients with a spatula as needed to help the blending process.

Check the consistency.

If the mixture seems too thick, add more water, and blend for a few more seconds.

Carrot, Mango and Turmeric Smoothie

Makes 2 servings

Ingredients:

  • 1 ⅔ cups carrot juice
  • 1 ripe mango, peeled and pitted
  • 1 ½ tsp pure turmeric powder
  • 1 Tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 banana, peeled, sliced and frozen
  • Water, as needed

How to Prepare:

Add the carrot juice to a large-capacity blender, followed by the remaining ingredients.

Blend until thoroughly combined, stopping to scrape down sides and to check the consistency.

If the smoothie seems too thick, add some water.

Pour into tall glasses, and serve right away.

Milk Thistle Tea

Makes 1 serving

Ingredients:

  • 1 Alvita milk thistle tea bag
  • 8 oz boiling water

How to Prepare:

Place the tea bag in a cup and add the boiling water.

Cover and steep for 15 minutes.

Squeeze the tea bag and remove it from the cup.

Blueberry Smoothie With Milk Thistle Powder

Makes 2 servings

Ingredients:

  • About 1 ⅔ cups filtered water
  • 1 small banana
  • 2 organic Red Delicious apples
  • ⅔ cup frozen blueberries
  • ⅔ tsp milk thistle powder

How to Prepare:

Peel, rinse, and core the ingredients as needed, and put them in a large-capacity blender in the order listed above.

Purée until smooth and creamy, adding more water to achieve the desired consistency. Enjoy!

Gingery Carrot Juice

Makes 1 serving

Ingredients:

  • 8 organic carrots
  • 1 ½ inch slice fresh ginger

How to Prepare:

Scrub the carrots under cold running water and trim their tops.

Peel the ginger.

Pass the carrots and ginger through a juicer.

Clean the juicer right after use.

Detox Tea

Ingredients:

  • 1-quart water
  • 1 tsp whole cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp whole coriander seeds
  • 1 tsp fennel seeds
  • 1 Tbsp fresh turmeric root, sliced (or ½ teaspoon dried turmeric)
  • 1 Tbsp fresh ginger, sliced (optional, but recommended)

How to Prepare:

Bring the water to a simmer in a 2-quart saucepan.

Add the rest of the ingredients, and simmer for 5 minutes.

Turn off the heat, and allow the tea to steep for another 5 minutes.

Strain. Drink warm or at room temperature.

Store in the refrigerator if you are planning to sip it throughout the day.

(serves 2)

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup almond milk
  • ½ cup plain low-fat yogurt
  • ½ cup chopped kale
  • ½ cup loosely packed baby spinach
  • ½ cup fresh or frozen blueberries
  • ½ cup fresh or frozen raspberries
  • ½ cup fresh or frozen blackberries
  • 1 frozen banana, cut into chunks

How to Prepare:

Combine all ingredients in a blender and process well until smooth and creamy.

Serve immediately


Cacao Extravaganza

(serves 1)

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup almond or coconut milk
  • 1 banana, peeled, cut into chunks
  • 1 Tbsp. peanut butter or almond butter
  • 1 Tbsp. cacao powder
  • ½ cup flat-leaf parsley
  • Sprinkle of cacao nibs on top of smoothie (optional)
  • 6–8 ice cubes

How to Prepare:

Combine all ingredients in a blender and process well until smooth and creamy.

Pour into a glass and sprinkle cacao nibs on top, as desired.

Serve chilled.


Calcium Booster

(serves 2)

Ingredients:

  • 1 cucumber, peeled if not organic
  • 1 cup chopped kale
  • 2 pears (Asian or Bartlett)
  • 1 avocado
  • 6 ice cubes

How to Prepare:

Chop cucumber, kale, and pear. Place in the blender and process until smooth.

Add the avocado and ice, and blend until creamy


Chia Mia

(serves 2)

Ingredients:

  • 10 raw almonds
  • 1 Tbsp. raw sunflower seeds
  • 1 Tbsp. chia seeds
  • 1 Tbsp. sesame seeds
  • 1 Tbsp. flaxseeds
  • 1 cup pineapple juice (juice one quarter pineapple, if making fresh)
  • 1 cup chopped parsley
  • ½ cup almond milk
  • ½ tsp. pure vanilla extract
  • 1 Tbsp. protein powder (optional)
  • 6 ice cubes

How to Prepare:

Place the nuts, seeds, and pineapple juice in a bowl.

Cover and soak overnight.

Place the nut and seed mixture with the juice in a blender and add the parsley, milk, vanilla, protein powder (if using), and ice cubes.

Blend on high speed until smooth.

This drink will be a bit chewy because of the nuts and seeds.

Note: To kill molds, add ½ tsp. ascorbic acid to juice, then add nuts and soak
overnight.


Chocolate Chimps

(serves 2)

Ingredients:

  • 1 banana, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 1 Tbsp. cocoa or powdered cacao
  • 1 Tbsp. peanut butter or almond butter
  • ½ cup loosely packed baby spinach
  • ½ cup almond milk
  • 1–2 drops of stevia
  • 6 ice cubes

How to Prepare:

Place all ingredients in a blender and process until smooth and creamy.

Pour into glasses and serve chilled.
